Tuvalu Issues Stamps for Wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton June 22 , 2011 |
|||||||||||||||
In the middle of May, Tuvalu placed on sale five different postage stamps commemorating the royal wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton. The stamps were issued in two miniature sheets of four, containing two different stamps valued at $1.30 each, and one souvenir sheet containing one $3 stamp. The intended day of issue was to be April 29, but the stamps were late in arriving to remote Tuvalu. However, first day covers all have been cancelled April 29, 2011. |

The build-up to the wedding and the occasion itself attracted much media attention, with the service being broadcast live around the world, and being compared and contrasted in many ways with the 1981 marriage of William's parents, Charles, Prince of Wales and Diana, Princess of Wales. The couple spent their honeymoon on a secluded resort in the Seychelles Islands, and followed with an official visit to Canada from June 30th to July 8th. |

Prince William was born born 21 June 1982. On that occasion Tuvalu commemorated the event by overprinting three stamps issued for Princess Diana's 21st birthday with the inscription "Royal Baby". |
