New Parliamentary Speaker for Tuvalu

Tuvalu has a new parliamentary speaker, Otinielu Tauteleimalae Tausi.

Mr Tausi won the election nine votes to six, defeating Kamuta Latasi.

The election of the new speaker follows the recent Nukufetau by-election, in which Elisala Pita was the winning candidate.

The government has now strengthened its position, holding nine seats in parliament to the opposition's six.
