LUKA IS TUVALU'S NEW PRIME MINISTER

Luka, a former civil servant turned politician, is the new Prime Minister of
Tuvalu.
He was elected by parliament during a secret ballot Friday.
Luka served in the Tuvalu High Commission in Suva and was a permanent secretary in the government before his entry to politics.
He has had charge of such key portfolios as education.
Luka's name was submitted by MPs who previously supported the late Prime Minister Ionatana Ionatana, who died of a heart attack last December.
The new prime minister is from Nukufetau, an atoll northeast of Funafuti, the capital.
