NEW TUVALU PRIME MINISTER EXPECTED TO BE NAMED FRIDAY


FUNAFUTI, Tuvalu (February 22, 2001 * Radio New Zealand International)---Tuvalu is likely to have a new prime minister by midday tomorrow.

The nation's MPs meet tomorrow morning to select a replacement for the late Ionatana Ionatana, who died of a heart attack in December last year.

His deputy, Lagitupu Tuilimu, has been caretaker prime minister for the past two months.

The new leader is expected to announce a new cabinet line-up immediately.

They will be sworn in on Saturday.
